Music Therapy Abroad

Well folks, I have started my individual and group sessions at the clinic. I can't talk about kids by name or things like that but I can share my experiences and how I feel about everything. Yesterday afternoon, I met my group of clients in two separate group sessions. Meeting these kids for the first time in a group, without being to speak their language, was a bit intimidating but I made it through and we made awesome music together. We played mostly drums/rhythm instruments and lots of smiling and laughter was taking place. The kids really listened to each other throughout the music to match rhythms, dynamics, etc.

The job is definitely going to be a huge challenge for me. I am very particular and want to have successful sessions and experiences but it will take more time to build rapport with these kids because of the language barrier and it will be harder to go deeper with them without a translator (we are supposed to have one but do not right now). If I can do music therapy here, I'm pretty sure I can do it anywhere! That's what I"ll say in my next job interview, haha.
